A combination of garlic and honey is one of the classic herbal remedies that has been used for many years to cure colds and coughs as well as to lose weight. Both have immune-boosting properties and natural compounds that have scientifically been proven to have positive effects on the body // Garlic is antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic! // While crushing garlic with honey is the fastest way of having it, fermented garlic honey is known to have tremendous health benefits // Just drop the peeled cloves in a jar (poke some holes if you want) and then add the honey. You can stir it to make sure all the garlic cloves are coated with honey. Leave 2” airspace at the top // Loosely seal the jar and then give it a stir or shake every few days. Open the lid every 2-3 days as well to let it ‘burp’. You should see tiny bubbles as it begins to ferment around the third or fourth day // After 4-6 weeks, you can start consuming it // Fermented garlic honey is now ready to use. You can store it at room temperature and consume a teaspoon a day or as needed. I love to eat the cloves as well! Can last up to a year on your counte

Make fermented garlic honey now so you’ll have it in time for winter. List of benefits in the comments.

**Ingredients:**

– 1 cup of raw honey

– 1/2 cup of peeled garlic cloves

**Instructions:**

  1. **Prepare the garlic:** Start by peeling the garlic cloves. You can use a garlic press or simply peel them by hand.
  2. **Sterilize your jar:** Ensure that the jar you’ll be using is clean and sanitized. You can do this by washing it with hot, soapy water and then sterilizing it by boiling it for a few minutes or running it through the dishwasher.
  3. **Layer the garlic:** Place the peeled garlic cloves at the bottom of the sterilized jar.
  4. **Add honey:** Pour the raw honey over the garlic cloves. Make sure the garlic cloves are completely submerged in honey. Honey acts as a natural preservative and helps prevent the growth of harmful bacteria during fermentation.
  5. **Seal the jar:** Close the jar tightly with a lid.
  6. **Fermentation:** Store the sealed jar at room temperature (around 70-75°F or 21-24°C) for about 3-4 weeks. During this time, the garlic will slowly ferment in the honey.

7.**Burp the jar (optional):** If you notice pressure building up in the jar, you can occasionally “burp” it by loosening the lid to release the gas, then tighten it again.

  1. **Storage:** Store the fermented garlic honey in the refrigerator to prolong its shelf life. It can last for several months or even longer when stored properly.

Fermented garlic honey combines the benefits of garlic and honey with the added advantage of fermentation.

garlic and honey recipe

We’ve all heard of the fermented garlic/honey, but have you heard of the onion/honey cough syrup?(not to be given under 1yr of age) The garlic can take a few weeks. But if you want something quicker, try this! I left mine overnight, but it can be done as quickly as 1 hour. Simply soak some chopped onions in honey and you’ve got a yummy cough syrup! Here are some benefits I took from an article:

“-Honey is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and a powerful antioxidant.

-Honey soothes a sore and tired throat.

-Onion contains the antioxidant quercetin, which fights inflammation in the body,.

-Onion is high in sulfur compounds (as is garlic), which has been shown to help with a variety of health issues.

-Since onion is an expectorant it helps clear mucus, which is common with a cough.

-Onions have electrolytes, which is essential for keeping hydrated during an illness.”

HONEY AND ONION COUGH SYRUP

Honey and Onion Cough Syrup is a great remedy for cough and colds. It helps sooth a sore throat and clear excess mucus.

Ingredients

* 2-3 medium onions peeled and sliced into half-moons

* 2 cloves garlic roughly chopped (optional)

* 2-3 cups raw honey

Instructions

  1. Add the sliced onions to a medium saucepan along with the chopped garlic
  2. Add enough honey to cover the onions. They do not need to be entirely submerged, but the honey level should be as high as the onions.
  3. Turn the burner on low and allow the onions and garlic to soften, stirring occasionally.

Cook on low heat until the onions are soft about 1-2 hours. Stir occasionally to encourage even heating.

If your onions are still not very soft, you can increase the heat slightly to encourage them to release their juices. The goal is to keep the heat low to preserve the enzymes and benefits of honey.

  1. Once the honey has been infused, turn off the heat and allow it to cool to room temperature.
  2. Place the honey onion cough syrup in a glass jar, and cover it with a lid once the honey is no longer warm.
  3. Store in the refrigerator
  4. Discard if there are any signs of spoilage such as mold or an off smell.
  5. Take ½ – 1 teaspoon every 1-2 hours at the first signs of a cold. If you’re treating a cold that has already started, take 1 teaspoon 3-4 times per day.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Honey is not safe for babies under the age of 1 year to consume.
